Design Thinking For Teachers

About The Programme

Classrooms and schools across the world are facing design challenges every single day, from teacher feedback systems to daily schedules. Wherever they fall on the spectrum of scale – the challenges educators are confronted with are real, complex, and varied. And as such, they require new perspectives, new tools, and new approaches for problem-solving. Design Thinking is one of them.

This Design Thinking programme, specially designed for educators, provides a rich context for academic instruction and learning. Our programme is based on the following key principles :

  • Ownership and thus project selection by participants (with appropriate trainer guidance)

  • Involvement of the participants in empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping and testing.

Our trainers are more supportive and supervisory than directive and help the participants select an appropriate project and guides them through the necessary steps to completion. They monitor activities, and facilitate participants' reflection and analysis of their experiences.

As a result:

  • Participants learn a range of valuable practical skills including: problem solving, organizing, collaborating, project management, research, dealing with obstacles and setbacks, etc.

  • Participants are empowered with the realization that they can make a difference in their own community of educators

Objective

This programme aims to equip educators with the knowledge of Design Thinking framework. It helps participants to develop creative thinking skills which are key to innovation to designing solutions in the classroom. These include the ability to gain deep insights about youth, to define and reframe problems, and to generate solutions or alternative approaches that are more effective than those that already exist. For example, teachers may design more efficient administration processes or use ICT tools to create more engaging lessons.

This programme also aims to create awareness of the main features, principles and methodologies of Design Thinking as an approach for innovation and work improvement.

This programme will help educators understand the key procedures or tools involved in Design Thinking, with hands-on learning experience, for innovative application and for identifying new opportunities.
